- VIEWERS PLATFORM
- location: Rotterdam (Show on map)
- program: Observation post
- client: DS + V, Rotterdam
- design: 1997
- design team: Juliette Bekkering, André van der Slik
The ‘viewers platform’ is located next to the Brienenoordbrug in Rotterdam and is a proposal for a movable tower complex from where one can enjoy the panorama of the skyline of Rotterdam. The building is situated on the northern pylon of the bridge. It can be reached via a new drive-way on the east side of the bridge parallel to the existing road. The building exists of three parts:
1. A fixed tower, where one can see and be seen. Where you can enjoy a meal or a drink and enjoy the panorama. Where one can rent a suite in the hotel or have a business meeting with a spectacular view on the sky-line of Rotterdam.
2. A “balancing building” where one can drive the car in and be deported together with the car to great heights, from where one can look over the city and the harbour.
3. A bridge to connect the platform to the main land.
The building manifests itself as an ever changing composition, because of the moving parts of the building. Together with the existing bridge it forms a sculptural ensemble and marks the entrance of the city.
